MOLL-MOTOR supports world record attempt at the LWBFS Vöcklabruck

The LWBFS Vöcklabruck is an educational center with a focus on agriculture and close links to practice. The school attaches great importance to modern, practice-oriented training in agriculture, forestry and agricultural technology. Projects such as this record-breaking experiment impressively demonstrate how innovative and practical the school’s work is – always with an eye on sustainability and technical issues of the future.

For this record attempt, the LWBFS Vöcklabruck uses a tried and tested combination of chainsaws with parallel guidance. This method enables precise and efficient cuts directly in the forest. The project is supported by a PTO power generator from MOLL-MOTOR, which ensures the operation of the large Makita circular hand saws with electric motors, enables localized trimming and provides lighting in the forest. Driven by a tractor, the emergency power generator supplies the energy required to achieve high-quality and precise cutting results even without any significant infrastructure on site. This solution underlines the innovative strength and flexibility with which LWBFS Vöcklabruck masters forestry challenges.

Electric motors in the forest are not only used with hand saws, mobile log band saws are also increasingly being powered by electricity. At first glance, it seems unusual to operate an electrically powered sawmill in the forest – combustion engines seem more obvious. In reality, however, there are many arguments in favor of electric motors:

• Better torque behavior: Electric motors deliver full torque immediately, even at low speeds. Petrol engines, on the other hand, have to be larger in order to avoid stalling under load. For example, we supply 5.5 kW electric motors (approx. 7.5 hp) for machines that are alternatively driven by a 14 hp petrol engine.
• Greater efficiency: Less fuel consumption thanks to efficient power generation with the tractor, fewer losses in the system.
• Low maintenance: No additional engine means fewer parts to break.
• Flexible feed drive: If the saw is driven electrically, electric worm gear motors can simultaneously provide the feed, allowing the cut to be controlled precisely and powerfully – another advantage over purely mechanical solutions.

Even though this project “only” involves a PTO generator from MOLL-MOTOR, our commitment to the timber industry goes far beyond that. Electric motors from MOLL-MOTOR drive numerous applications in the wood sector:

• Log band saws and sawmills, stationary or mobile
• Log conveyors, often with robust planetary geared motors that can withstand lateral impacts
• Feed drives for cutting and sorting systems
• Components for sawmill technology retrofits, often as a package including frequency inverter and switchgear combination
• Circular saw motors, 1-phase and 3-phase, with and without brake, left-hand thread or right-hand thread.

Thanks to our large storage capacity and high level of modification expertise, we supply the timber industry in Austria, Germany, Scandinavia and the Baltic states – whether standard standard motors or customized solutions with planetary gearboxes assembled in-house, we can also produce special types of protection at short notice.
The typical motor outputs for electric sawmill technology, two-pole motors from 2.2kW to 37kW for the main drive, as well as 0.37kW worm gear motors for the feed, are available from stock in large quantities at MOLL-MOTOR. Thanks to our close proximity, we can deliver emergency replacement motors within a few hours to any location in Austria, or by special transport to other nearby countries with significant timber industries such as Germany, Poland, Croatia, Romania and Slovakia.

MOLL-MOTOR has been manufacturing high-quality PTO generators for mobile power supply for over 20 years. The devices in the ZGN series are characterized by high voltage stability, 3-phase actual value detection and robust construction – ideal for applications such as these, where constant electrical power is required under field conditions. Power is supplied directly from the tractor – with low emissions, quietly and without an additional combustion engine.
